Is Unlimited Drinks Worth It?

Is Unlimited Drinks Worth It?

Oct 05 , 2019

Recently, we went on a 3 day Carnival Cruise to Mexico. Being the Bev Babe that I am, we purchased the CHEERS! Unlimited Drink Package.

"CHEERS! is an all-inclusive beverage program that allows guests to enjoy a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages by paying a flat daily rate. Guests must be 21 or older to purchase CHEERS! and each adult assigned to the same stateroom must purchase the program."

It's about $52/day + gratuity, and with a 3 day cruise, you're looking at around $185 per person. However, even though it claims "unlimited" drinks you're limited to 15 alcoholic drinks per day. Keep in mind that if you're in a room with other adults, every adult must also purchase the CHEERS! package as well.

Also just a FYI - make sure to bring a water bottle so you can fill up in the dining area.

Here's the rundown:

Day 1 - Long Beach, CA

The first embarkation day can be beneficial, if you arrive early. Since we arrived at 2pm, we were able to hit the bar and get a good amount of drinks out of our package.

But here's the catch: you still have to pay taxes when you're docked at the port. We had about 4 or 5 drinks and paid about ~$1.30 each drink. It's not bad, but just something to consider - regardless you'll be paying the taxes with or without the CHEERS! package.

The taxes go away on the water though, so everything was all smooth sailing from there (lol.)

Day 2 - At Sea

Ok, this is when things got serious. Since there's a 15 drink limited for the alcohol we tried our best to max them out. We decided to document all the drinks we ordered and how much it would have been.

Goal: to drink more than $120 worth of alcohol.

10:50am - $8.95 (Creamsicle) / $8.95 (Twilight Zone.)
These are basically dressed up Pina Coladas found in the pool area bars.
11:20am - $8.95 (Creamsicle) / $8.95 (Twilight Zone)
12:34pm - $6.25 (Michelob Ultra) / $6.50 (Modelo)
1:15pm - $6.25 (Michelob Ultra) / $9.50 (Sex on the Beach)

1:37pm - $9.50 (Sex on the Beach)

2:05pm - $10.95 x 2 (Patron shots)

2:22pm - $5.95 x 2 (Fireball shots)

5:14pm - $9.50 (Mai Tai) / $6.25 (Michelob Ultra)

7:00pm - $10.95 x 2 (Patron shots)

7:15pm - $9.50 (Sex on the Beach) / $6.25 (Heinkein)
8:19pm - $9.25 (Cucumber Sunrise) / $6.25 (Heinkein)
9:19pm - $9.95 (AMF)
10:02pm - $9.95 (AMF)

Total of: $178.50 spent on drinks.

Mission accomplished.

Day 3 - MEXICO.

Ok, here is where you lose money. You're in Mexico, you're drinking and spending money outside of the cruise ship. The ship lets you out at 8am and leaves at 6pm.

After a long day exploring Mexico, we were only able to drink a few beers and Sex on the Beaches at dinner, so for Saturday it wasn't worth it.

Ok, this is the most important part.

If you purchase the CHEERS! package, you're going to have the "I'll take another" mentality.

If you don't purchase the package, you're going to think twice about that pina colada at breakfast, or that shot of patron at dinner. With the CHEERS! package you don't think twice, you just order.

This itself is the most important factor for me. For those of you who are solid beer drinkers, you can probably save a lot more money just purchasing each individual beer. But then again, you're on vacation...don't limit yourself.

So I would say, yes its totally worth it. Purchase the package!!

Now peep these cute ass pouches we took with us on the cruise. They're super cute and we got a lot of compliments and people asking where they could get one on the ship.

It's the little things like this that make the experience just a tad more memorable.

Let us know if you want to reserve yours!
